Kira Turnage plays The Porn Actress in “A Pornographer” the controversial and alarming, fact-based story of excessive
internet porn listings—over 100 a day in Los Angeles alone-- for porn actresses which may, or may not, be fraudulent
casting sessions.
“The blonde, blue-eyed actress is very compelling in her role,” confides “A Pornographer” director Mike Campbell. He continues, “Kira brings a delicate balance of gullibility and culpability to her poignant performance as a coy, yet reluctant porn actress who knows the routine but just doesn’t fall into the role, categorically.” Her co-star, Todd Johnson, who plays the Porn Director, is equally impressed with Turnage’s performance, “she has a wonderful vulnerability about her. She’s soft and feminine, yet gutsy and sexy at the same time.” Turnage’s more than fit body equals her astounding acting ability; she is a rigorous and highly competitive athlete. She quips, “I love soccer and have played most of my life. I am now in the World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA) which is an actual kickball league (like the sport played in elementary school) but it’s very competitive with tournaments scheduled worldwide.” The acting beauty is also part philosopher when talking about her craft, saying, “The best part of being an actress is that I am a part in telling stories--great stories that hopefully touch people’s heart, make them laugh, cry, think, relate.” Turnage adds, “My favorite actress is Rachel McAdams. Her movies and movies, in general, help people connect; they can change people’s moods, and hopefully inspire, like “A Pornographer” has done for me to send a “wake-up” call to young girls everywhere.” Family values are a deep part of Turnage’s background. With a smile, she beams, “My mother inspires me, and no matter what hardships she’s faced, she’s still the most giving person I know. No one in the family besides me is in the business. I have one older sister who is exactly 4 years and 1 week older than me; my dad’s an Aquatic coach.” Turnage grew up doing theatre. She recalls, “I really enjoyed the plays “Curious Savage” and “I Remember Mama” since both were very diverse, challenging, enjoyable roles. For film, I would say one of my most memorable roles is one of the first shorts I worked on when I moved to LA: Night Full of Rats. It was very dark and edgy which was fun for me because I normally get cast in more upbeat films.” She describes herself as “an East coast girl who was born in New Jersey, grew up in Upstate New York, went to high school in Maine and now in LA, baby! I like watching TV mini-series because you get caught up in the detailed characters like The 10th Kingdom and the AMC Pride and Prejudice.” Turnage was graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern Maine and graduated with a major in Communication and a minor in Theatre. She also spent one year in a national student exchange program at California State University Northridge (CSUN). |
